Grab a Cuppa and Learn a Bit About Me...
You may not be a big believer in therapy; honestly, I was right there with you. I most certainly did not start out thinking therapy could possibly be of any help to me. In fact, I was quite insistent that I did not need help. Vehemently so.
Until I did.Â
So, naturally, I tried every trick in the book that I knew, all of which had to do with "Just think your way out of it, Cait! You've done it before. It'll be easy!"
To my dismay, that did not work, and I was fresh out of ideas again. And I kept coming back to the fact that I did not know how just talking about my problems would be helpful.
I literally stumbled onto somatic work, which is to say therapy that incorporates looking at how the body participates in our daily lives instead of just talking about it. My mind totally pulled a black hole on me; it imploded, and then my whole world expanded.
Holy shit! I have a body, and it has been talking to me this entire time. I just had no idea what it was saying. I found out that the body uses its own language and needs to be translated into words I could understand. But I didn't have a translator!
So, fast-forward. I found one! And it changed everything about how I work with my clients and how I am as a person. Â
As a result of those experiences, I integrate different modalities into the work I do with my clients, which is dynamic and individualized.
Those modalities include: Attachment Theory, Collaborative Language Systems- which also draws from Feminist Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, parts work, Mindfulness and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
